Construction

Earned College Credits

Wentworth Institute of Technology currently offers up to 32 college credits – half the required coursework for an associate degree – for apprenticeship work in the following trades:

  • Carpenters
  • Electricians
  • Iron workers
  • Pipefitters
  • Sheet metal workers

This college credit can count toward the following degrees and certificates:

If you are about to start a career in union construction work, you may wonder why you should consider college at all. In short, working on a degree now can set you up for further success later. The associate degrees listed above can position you to become an architectural designer, drafter, inspector, estimator, or job supervisor. With a bachelor’s degree, you could even land a management position with a construction or building design firm. You may not be interested in starting one of these positions now, but they could become very attractive down the road if you desire a career change or a transition to less physically demanding work.

To claim these college credits, you should:

  1. Apply to Wentworth Institute of Technology.
  2. Select your union from the appropriate drop-down menu in the “enrollment information” portion of the application.
  3. Email a photo or scan of your apprenticeship training card to your admissions counselor, who will contact you once you have completed your application.
