BEST Hospitality Training recently celebrated the opening of its new training center at the Omni Seaport Hotel in Boston. This training opened during the pandemic and is equipped with state of the art facilities. Students are able to access training at the hotel and this also offers the hotel a way to offer jobs to this emerging talent pool.

BEST provides pre-employment and incumbent worker training designed to meet the labor needs of Boston’s growing hospitality industry. Its mission is to provide individuals with the education, skills, and training to excel in the hospitality industry and in their personal lives. BEST is a long-term grantee of the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, a department in the Worker Empowerment Cabinet. The Center for Working Families, also a department in the Worker Empowerment Cabinet, offers free financial education to participants in BEST’s training programs. Local 26 members from more than 30 hotels take classes at BEST and its job seeker program is a DOL-registered Housekeeping Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

The celebration was the culmination of many years of planning and the audience featured many of those who had worked with BEST for a long time to reach this goal. Chief of Worker Empowerment Trinh Nguyen was one of several speakers sharing congratulations at this event. Other luminaries included U.S. Secretary of Labor, Martin J. Walsh, and Massachusetts Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development, Lauren Jones. Speakers also included UNITE HERE Local 26 Carlos Aramayo, BEST Executive Director Aisha Necoechea, and several graduates of the program.
